שמו האמיתי של דיוויד סיביל הוא רוס בגדאסאריאן Ross Bagdasarian, היוצר של "אלווין והסנאים" Alvin And The Chipmunks , להקה המורכבת משלוש דמויות מצוירות של סנאים – קולות אנושיים המגלמים אותם. Witch Doctor היה הסינגל הראשון של סביל, שכלל גם קול גבוה של רופא האליל. השיר עצמו לא זוהה עם The Chipmunks, שקיבלו תוכנית טלוויזיה בשנת 1961 יחד עם דיוויד סביל.
השיר עוסק בגבר הזקוק לעזרה מרופא אליל על מנת להרשים אישה בה התאהב. המכשף מציע מיני מילים כדי לרכוש את לבבה. ההלצה המוסיקלית הזו הגיעה למקום הראשון בארה"ב ולמקום ה-11 בבריטניה בשנת 1958. השיר נכלל באלבום של Alvin And The Chipmunks.
